How to Prepare Your Child for Meeting Santa at Home

Simple ways to help children feel relaxed and excited before a Santa home visit.

Meeting Santa at home can be incredibly exciting, but it can also feel big for younger children. A little preparation helps the visit feel calm, magical and enjoyable.

Prepare Your Child for Meeting Santa

Talk about the visit in a gentle way. Explain that Santa is kind, friendly and very busy, but he is looking forward to saying hello.

Do not overbuild the pressure

Some children become nervous if the visit is made into too big a deal. Keep the tone light and reassuring.

Let children choose where to sit

If a child wants to sit near a parent, that is fine. They do not need to sit right next to Santa for the visit to be successful.

Have a comfort item nearby

A favourite toy, blanket or teddy can help younger children feel secure. Santa can even include the toy in the conversation.

Take photos naturally

Do not force the perfect photo. Some of the best images are natural moments: a wave, a smile, a surprised face or a quiet chat.
